DOHA: Palestinian resistance group Hamas called for a “day of furious rage” on Friday, coinciding with the burial of its assassinated leader Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar.

This move comes amid escalating tensions and widespread protests following Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination in an Israeli strike.

In a statement on Thursday, Hamas urged supporters to hold mass demonstrations to express their anger over Haniyeh’s killing in Tehran and to protest the ongoing Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip. “Let roaring anger marches start from every mosque” following Friday prayers, the Palestinian group said.

Haniyeh, who had been living in exile in Qatar alongside other members of Hamas’s political leadership, was killed early Wednesday in a targeted attack on his residence in Tehran. The strike, carried out by Israel, has heightened fears of an expanding regional conflict.

Following Haniyeh’s assassination, a public funeral was held in Tehran on Thursday, with significant crowds of mourners gathering to pay their respects. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the funeral prayers.

The killing of Haniyeh has sparked a wave of protests across the Middle East. In Amman, Jordan, thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli embassy on Wednesday to condemn the attack. The unrest has also spread to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and to major cities in Tunisia and Morocco, where protesters have voiced their support for the Palestinian cause and denounced Israeli actions.

Hamas has urged supporters in the occupied West Bank to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and to resist Israeli occupation plans.
