PORTS MOUTH, USA: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has agreed to the rules for her upcoming debate against Republican Donald Trump, including having the candidates’ microphones muted when it’s not their turn to speak.

This debate, set for September 10, will be the first face-off between Harris and Trump. Harris became the Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden stepped aside following a poor debate performance in June.

The Harris campaign, however, hopes that moments arise where the moderators at ABC News—who are hosting the debate—feel compelled to unmute the microphones to allow more spontaneous exchanges. Harris’s candidacy has revived Democratic enthusiasm, with some polls now showing her leading over Trump, who previously had an edge over Biden.

Trump adviser Jason Miller welcomed the agreement on the debate format, expressing confidence that the American public wants to hear both candidates clearly present their visions. Meanwhile, both Democratic and Republican vice presidential candidates, Tim Walz and JD Vance, have agreed to debate on October 1 on CBS News.
