WASHINGTON: US Presidential candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have taken their White House race to the West on Thursday, seeking supremacy on border security and trying to woo the Latino voters just before the US election.
Pop star Jennifer Lopez will perform on the stage for Harris in Las Vegas, as the candidates fight through the seven major states expected to decide the next president.
Meanwhile, Trump is set to sit with ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson for an interview in Arizona and a rally in Nevada.
The 78-year-old will also visit New Mexico on Thursday since according to polls the state will go to Harris by a comfortable margin.
The two candidates campaigning out west, are hoping to woo Hispanic voters and earn credit on the key election issue of migration.
Trump says that frustrations over the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policy will swing Arizona, which shares a border with Mexico.
Biden defeated Trump in Arizona in 2020, becoming the first Democrat since Bill Clinton in 1996 to win the electoral college votes of the state.
Traditionally Latinos have voted in favour of Democrats, but recent polling shows a considerable trend toward Republicans.
According to recent polls, Harris has 52% support of Hispanic voters while Trump has the backing of 42% of voters.
Both presidential candidates will be in North Carolina on the weekend, with Harris also visiting Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin before Election Day.
Trump who is facing 34 felony convictions for crimes pertaining to the 2016 election is expected to reject Tuesday’s election result if he loses to Harris.
The Republican party is already accusing some election officials of widespread cheating. It is pertinent to mention that more than 57 million Americans have cast their votes via early or mail-in voting so far.
