Harshitha Half-century Leads Sri Lanka to 2nd Victory at T20 World Cup

CAPE TOWN: Harshitha Samarawickrama made a half-century to guide her team to a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday for their second successive win at the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Harshitha made 69 not out and also shared an unbeaten 105 runs partnership with Nilakshi de Silva (41 not out). They enabled Sri Lankan team to survive an early shock in pursuit of a Bangladesh cricket team total of 126 for eight.

Sri Lankan side, who beat hosts South Africa in the T20 World Cup opener on the same venue on Friday, were anxious when bowler Marufa Akter took three wickets without yielding a run to reduce them to 25 runs for three in the 6th over.

De Silva and Harshitha had to rebuild on a pitch of uneven bounce and they took the total to 49 runs after 10 overs, increasing the tempo as Bangladeshi bowlers were unable to make any further breakthroughs.
