Haryana Riots, a Plot to Distract People’s Attention from Manipur: Congress Leader

New Delhi: Congress leader Udit Raj has accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) led-government in Haryana of triggering riots in the northern state to divert the public’s attention from shameful incident of Manipur.

The former Member of the Parliament added that the BJP government is doing an experiment in Haryana’s Nuh and Gurugram.

On 31 July 2023, violence started in the Nuh district of Haryana during a religious procession arranged by Hindu nationalist groups, including Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the militant group Bajrang Dal.

Anti-Muslim riots on the rise in India

At least five people including two police officials, were killed during the riots. The Hindu mob also burnt a mosque while a Muslim cleric was killed in the unrest. Shops and restaurants were also damaged and torched by the charged crowd.

The former MP claimed that the riots were started under a plan to divert people’s attention from the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Udit Raj went on to say that Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar was behind in the unrest in Nuh.

He said the riots were triggered by the video of a member of Bajrang Dal against Muslims.  Monu Manesar, who made the video, is wanted by police for murdering two Muslim men in February.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij’s in his statement also said that the violence in Nuh was pre-planned.

Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar has committed financial compensation to the victims of Nuh riots adding that those behind these criminal acts will be punished.

Since May 3, the northern state of India, Manipur has also been witnessing ethnic clashes between the majority Meitei and Kuki communities. At least 182 people, including 62 Meiteis and 113 Kukis, have lost their lives and about 60,000 have been dislocated.
