ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has refuted reports claiming the federal government has announced a 4-day holiday on account of Eid ul Fitr, saying that the authorities have yet to decide on the matter.

A fake notification, circulating on social media platforms, stating that in continuation of cabinet division’s circular No 10-20/2023 Min-II dated 23 December, it is for general information that the prime minister is pleased to declare 9 April 2024 to 12 April 2024 as public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr.

In a statement on Sunday, the interior ministry spokesperson clarified that the notification circulating on social media was “fake”.

The spokesperson added that the federal government has not yet made any decision regarding the Eid ul Fitr holidays. Whatever decision the government makes about the Eid holidays, a regular notification will be issued, he added.

The Punjab government, however, announced a 9-day holiday break for Daanish schools on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, starting from April 6.

In a notification issued on Saturday, the provincial authorities said the Daanish Schools in Punjab will remain closed from April 6 to April April 14.

Traditionally, the Eid holidays in Pakistan start a day earlier than the anticipated date to allow people ample time for preparations and to partake in the joyous festivities.
