KARACHI: Karachi Kings’ fast bowler Hasan Ali made history on Friday during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 clash against Quetta Gladiators, becoming the tournament’s all-time leading wicket-taker.
He surpassed Wahab Riaz’s record during the second over at the National Bank Stadium, claiming the crucial wicket of Gladiators opener Hasan Nawaz, courtesy of a brilliant catch by Khushdil Shah.
The Karachi Kings’ vice-captain reached this milestone in his 84th innings, three fewer than Wahab Riaz.
Most wickets in PSL history:
Hasan Ali: 116 wickets in 84 innings
Wahab Riaz: 113 wickets in 87 innings
Shaheen Shah Afridi: 108 wickets in 74 innings
Shadab Khan: 97 wickets in 86 innings
Faheem Ashraf: 79 wickets in 73 innings
Hasan Ali has been in fine form this PSL season. He produced a four-wicket haul in the fixture against Lahore Qalandars.
Though he had a rather costly spell against Multan Sultans—conceding 44 runs for a single wicket—he bounced back impressively in the following match against the Qalandars with a stellar performance.
Karachi Kings set a competitive target against Quetta Gladiators in the eighth match of the tournament, powered by a half-century from James Vince and a late onslaught by Mohammad Nabi.
Opting to bat first, the Kings posted a total of 175 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.
They made a solid start, reaching 60 runs in just 5.4 overs. Captain David Warner and Tim Seifert laid the foundation with some aggressive batting, although Warner was the first to fall.
James Vince top-scored with a composed 70 off 47 deliveries, featuring six boundaries and a six. His innings proved vital in helping the Kings set a formidable total for the Gladiators.
