CAPE TOWN: South Africa’s veteran batter Hashim Amla has announced retirement from professional cricket, international media reported on Wednesday.
During his career of twenty years, Hashim Amla has represented South Africa in 44 T20Is, 124 Tests, and 181 ODIs.
Amla confirmed to Surrey County Cricket Club that he would not return to help defend the County Championship title that the Surrey County Cricket Club won in 2022 during Hashim Amla’s final season.
Taking to Twitter, the club announced Hashim Alma’s retirement plans: “Hashim Amla announces retirement from all formats of cricket. The legendary South African batter has announced that his playing career is over. From everyone at Surrey, thank you, Amla, for everything.”

A few hours later, the Surrey club tweeted an update about the matter with a farewell message from the star cricketer himself.
“‘I have great memories of the Oval cricket ground, and to finally leave the ground as a player gives me immense gratitude for what has been.’ Memories to last a lifetime. Thank you, Hash.”
The right-handed batter is recognized among the top batters of the present era.
During his over two decades of cricket career, Amla scored 34,104 runs across all cricket formats.
Amla has also made several records for his country.
In 2012, the star cricketer became the first-ever South African batter to score a triple ton when he scored 311 runs against England team at the Oval cricket ground.
