ISLAMABAD: As the monsoon season intensifies, health expert Dr. Waqar Naeem has issued a stark warning about the increased risk of waterborne and vector-borne diseases. Speaking to a private news channel, Dr. Naeem highlighted the urgent need for public awareness and proactive measures to combat illnesses such as cholera, typhoid, and dengue.

Dr. Naeem emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment to prevent complications and save lives. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt preventative measures to safeguard their health during this high-risk period. This includes consuming freshly prepared food, avoiding roadside vendors, and ensuring fruits and vegetables are thoroughly washed. He also recommended taking preventive vaccines against hepatitis A, typhoid, and flu.

The expert stressed the need to regularly clean water containers, flower pots, bird baths, and coolers to eliminate stagnant water that can serve as breeding grounds for disease-carrying vectors like mosquitoes. Drinking only boiled water or water from a reliable purifier is essential to avoid waterborne infections.

Dr. Naeem noted that the monsoon season exacerbates health risks due to increased humidity and stagnant water. He highlighted a concerning rise in gastrointestinal issues, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain, particularly in Karachi.

For families, especially children, avoiding contact with stagnant water is crucial to prevent waterborne diseases. Dr. Naeem called on the media to help spread this vital information, ensuring that the public is well-informed and prepared to handle the health challenges of the monsoon season.
