KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and thundershowers in many parts of the country, including Karachi, from April 16.
The Meteorological Organization said in an announcement that strong western waves will enter the west of the country from the night of April 16 and likely to grip most parts of Balochistan on April 17.
Westerly waves are expected to expand to high levels on the 18th.
Parts of Sindh including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shadad Kot, Jamshoro and Sanghar will witness heavy rain from the night of April 17 to the morning of April 19.
In Balochistan, Gwadar, Kechi, Awaran, Chaghi, Karan, Awaran, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Qalat, Nushki, Mastung, Jal Magsi, Nasirabad, Sibi, Khor and Dere Bugti, are likely to receive heavy rain. From the night of April 16 to the morning of April 19, “severe waterfalls” are expected to fall in Balkan, Loralai, Harnai, Qila Saifullah, Mastun, Ziarat, Shirani, Zorb, Musa Khel and Balkan.
The weather forecasting department said rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with snowfall is expected over high mountains in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral, Haripur, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Shangla, Buner and Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Kurram with occasional gaps from April to 21.
“Hailstorm is also expected at isolated places during the forecast period.”
The Met Office said rain along with thunderstorm (with few heavy falls/hailstorm) is expected in Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Jhelum, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Khushab, Sargodha, Pakpattan and Sahiwal from April 18 to 21.
Rain is likely to hit Dera Ghazi Khan, , Sadiqabad, Khanpur Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar also with occasional gaps from April 18 to 20.
The Met department has advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travelling during the period.
