ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rainfall with thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, only light to moderate rain is likely in Karachi today, though heavier rain could occur in the surrounding areas. The maximum temperature is expected to touch around 34 degrees Celsius.
He said the weather in Karachi is expected to remain warm in the coming days. There is typically a one-degree rise in temperature during September, with the average temperature for the month being 33.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the PMD, the weather in Islamabad and its surroundings will remain hot and dry, with partly cloudy skies. There could be strong winds and rain accompanied by thunder in the afternoon.
Most districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to experience hot and dry weather. However, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds in Abbottabad, Battagram, Haripur, Kohistan, Mansehra and Swat.
The weather in most districts of Punjab will also remain hot and dry. However, rain with strong winds and thunder is possible in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Galyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Kasur, Khanewal, Khanpur, Kot Addu, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Murree, Multan, Narowal, Pakpattan, Rawalpindi, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh.
Most districts in Balochistan are expected to experience hot and dry weather. However, there may be rain with strong winds and thunder in some areas, including Awaran, Barkhan, Jhal Magsi, Kech, Khuzdar, Kohlu, Lasbela, Loralai, Musa Khel, Nasirabad, Qalat, Sibi and Zhob, and with some places potentially experiencing heavy rainfall.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued details regarding the damage caused by the rains in Balochistan. According to the PDMA, 39 people died in various incidents during the rains, over 900 houses were destroyed, and 7 bridges along with 47 kilometers of roads suffered damage.
In Sindh, the weather in most districts is expected to be partly cloudy. However, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunder in Badin, Dadu, Ghotki, Hyderabad, Kashmore, Karachi, Khairpur, Larkana, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Thatta, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Umerkot, and nearby areas.
In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather will be partly cloudy, with the possibility of rain accompanied by thunder in some areas.
According to a spokesperson for the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall could cause flooding in seasonal streams. In the past 24 hours, heavy rain has been recorded in Lahore and other northeastern and southern areas of Punjab.
