PESHAWAR: Over the past 48 hours, torrential rains have wreaked havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), claiming the lives of at least 21 individuals and leaving 37 others injured, according to the Director-General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The relentless downpour resulted in the complete destruction of 30 houses, while 97 others were partially damaged, exacerbating the plight of affected families across the region. In response to the calamity, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has swiftly mobilized relief efforts.
Directing the immediate provision of relief and compensation to affected families, the Chief Minister underscored the urgency of opening closed roads and facilitating those stranded due to rains and landslides. Furthermore, he instructed PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations to remain vigilant and extend necessary assistance to affected communities.
In a positive development, six tourists trapped in Malamjabba have been successfully rescued, as confirmed by DG PDMA Muhammad Qaiser Khan. Additionally, directives have been issued to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to expedite rescue and relief operations in their respective jurisdictions.
Beyond human casualties, reports of livestock losses have also surfaced, highlighting the multifaceted impact of the inclement weather on both lives and livelihoods in KP.
