Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Life in Upper Regions of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: The normalcy of life was affected due to the continuous snowfall in areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), and Balochistan on Friday.

According to media reports, in Upper Dir of KP, snowfall continued in Thal, Kumrat, and Lamoti. Thal received four feet of snowfall. Intermittent snowfall also continued in Shahi Brawal and Lowari. Snow accumulated on the roads in Lowari, has been removed. All the link roads in Kohistan were utterly blocked due to the snowfall. Citizens were faced with severe problems due to the continuous snowfall.

Continuous snowfall

Various places in northern Balochistan, and Chaman, received continuous snowfall. All the national highways and roads were closed. People and drivers faced severe difficulties. The freezing winds have caused the temperature to drop several degrees below the freezing point.

District administration and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) started Relief operations in the area. In Leepa valley, AJK also, life was paralysed due to snowfall. A valley received up to seven feet of snowfall in three days. Five feet of heavy snowfall was reported in the upper areas of Leepa valley, whereas more than two feet of snow fell in urban areas.
