Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has banned admissions in private MA and MSc programs, and Punjab University has also stopped registration for these degrees until the issue is resolved.

It merits mentioning that the registration in private MSc and MA programs were started on the instructions of the former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University.

Following the former Vice Chancellor’s approval, the administration started the private registration process on December 5. The deadline for registration of private candidates was March 15. However, on January 6, the HEC warned the applicants not to take admissions.

University delegation to meet HEC officials

A delegation from the university will meet the HEC officials to resolve the issue. Students wishing to pursue higher education while working will be negatively affected if HEC does not grant permission or facilitate.

Furthermore, the decisions will also impact lower-middle-class students, as they will be deprived of the right to pursue higher education.
