ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), under the RAPID Technology Transfer Grant (RTTG) programme, has invited research proposals from faculty members.
According to official sources, HEC had issued an invitation to faculty members of degree-awarding institutions (DAIs) in the private and public sectors to submit research proposals with a focus on the transfer of university-developed technologies and products to the commercial and industrial sectors.
The RTTG is an important component of the World Bank-funded Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) programme, which is being implemented by the HEC. It is a fast-track financing method for quick-response research on flood response, climate change, and the environment.
It deals with themes, topics, and challenges of extreme urgency. It is anticipated that the award will help proposals for applied research, new product development, and the commercialization of technological research and solutions.
The priority sectors for RTTG support are climate change, flood response, and environment, including but not limited to adaption, climate mitigation, disaster management (focusing on environmental monitoring, climate modeling, disaster surveillance, and geological monitoring), and policy dialogue interventions, and protection of available trees through artificial intelligence system controls, disaster metro-scale pollution reduction technologies and use of membrane systems for gaseous and water industrial waste treatment.
The other sectors, such as designing and developing hybrid membranes and conventional systems according to site and location requirements, identifying and developing hospital waste treatment procedures, removing arsenic and other toxic metals from industrial effluents and water underground aquifers, climate-smart agriculture, and adjusting agricultural production to climate change by creating crop varieties that are resistant to heat, drought, and flooding
HEC procedure for submitting proposal
The HEC online portal must receive the project proposals on the required application template. The deadline for project proposal submission is Tuesday (February 7, 2023), 11:59 p.m. Interested candidates are asked to visit http://www.hec.gov.pk/site/RTTG for further information and application.
