HEC Top Priority as Govt Releases PKR 129Bln Under PSDP

ISLAMABAD: The Water Resource Division and the Higher Education Commission have been prioritized as the government released 129 billion rupees for projects under the Public Sector Development Program.

The Ministry of Planning and Development released the funds for the 4th quarter of the current financial year.

No funds were released in the last quarter of the previous financial year (2021-22), which resulted in the government lowering the PSDP from 700 billion rupees to Rs550 billion.

According to the latest data from Planning Ministry, Under the PSDP, 27 billion rupees have been allocated for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and ex-Fata districts for development projects.

Thirty billion rupees were released to the Power Division to expedite projects like the Mohmand Dam, Kachi Canal, Diamer-Bhasha Dam, and Nai Gaj Dam, while 22 billion rupees was released for the Ministry of Communication to speed up projects like the Khuzdar-Kuchlak Road, dualization and Improvement of Old Bannu Road.

Moreover, Rs8 billion was issued for HEC to complete the projects. Similarly, 4 billion rupees were released for the Housing and Works Ministry, 8 billion rupees for the Railway Ministry, and 5 billion rupees for the Power Division.

Ahsan Iqbal lauds PSDP initiative

Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning and Development, said that the government was committed to allocating funds for development despite difficulties.

He termed the latest release a big step towards achieving the country’s development goals.
