ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission Pakistan on Wednesday unveiled new Graduate Education Policy 2023, effective and applicable from Fall 2023 semester onwards.
The new policy has been meticulously crafted to embody the core principles of university autonomy, quality assurance, and flexibility while also upholding academic freedom, originality, and relevance, HEC said in a press release.
Notable Features of Education Policy
It said that one of the notable features of the new policy is its liberal approach, which allows for intra-disciplinary admissions, and enables students to explore different academic fields within their chosen discipline. The policy recognizes the local and foreign expertise’s value by presenting external evaluations done by indigenous educationists alongside foreign evaluators.
In addition, the policy streamlines the relaxation of the CGPA conditions for admission and provides a more dynamic assessment of the time duration for degree completion. It also produces the process for determining faculty relevance and the conditions for HEC’s NOCs and approval to become a doctoral supervisor.
The policy presents clear guidelines and provides mechanisms to strengthen the implementation of these principles at the institutional level, ensuring transparency and consistency.
