BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said on Monday it had launched a squadron of drones towards the headquarters of the Israeli military’s Galilee formation in retaliation for the killing of its member.

The attack, if confirmed, would constitute the first instance of Hezbollah deploying a squadron of drones since the start of hostilities between the two sides. While there was no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the reported drone attack, sirens were sounded in northern Israel on three occasions on Monday.

In response to Hezbollah’s actions, the Israeli military announced the killing of Ali Hussein Sabra, a military operative in “Hezbollah’s Force Build-up Unit”. Furthermore, Israeli forces targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in the area of Qotrani in southern Lebanon, striking several military compounds.

Hezbollah stated that its drone squadron attack was in retaliation for the killing of one of its members in the southern village of Zrariyeh by Israeli forces. Furthermore, the group claimed to have launched drones towards Liman in northern Israel the day prior.

The recent days have witnessed an escalation of hostilities along Lebanon’s southern border, with both Hezbollah and the Israeli military engaging in strikes beyond the border strip. The intensification of the conflict has resulted in civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes were observed flying low over Beirut on Monday, according to residents.
