Beirut: Lebanon’s Hezbollah group claimed on Friday that it targeted the Israeli city of Haifa and surrounding northern areas with rockets, dedicating one of the attacks to its slain leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Hezbollah said that the “salvo of rockets” targeted the city of Haifa “in the service” of Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike last month. Moreover, Hezbollah reported launching another “rocket salvo” at regions north of Haifa.

Hamas on Friday confirmed the death of its newly appointed chief, Yahya Sinwar, in yesterday’s Israeli attack.

In a video statement, Hamas said that Sinwar’s killing will “build strength,” adding that they will not release hostages until the Gaza war ends and Israeli forces withdraw from the besieged and bombarded territory, senior Hamas official Khalil Hayya says.

“We mourn the great leader, the martyred brother, Yahya Sinwar, Abu Ibrahim,” Qatar-based Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya said in a recorded video statement broadcast by Al Jazeera.

Earlier today, Israel bombed the Lebanese-Syrian border, disrupted a crucial route for many Syrians relying on it for international travel, healthcare, and imported goods.

Lebanon’s main border crossing with Syria, known as Masnaa, has become unsafe; travelers now must navigate a massive crater in the road that is 10 meters (32 feet) deep and 30 meters (nearly 100 feet) wide.
