RAFA/ GAZA: In the predawn hours of Monday, a series of Israeli airstrikes targeted the southern Gaza city of Rafah, resulting in a significant loss of life, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The initial toll reported by the ministry indicated approximately 52 fatalities, but this figure was later revised upwards to “around 100” individuals killed in the strikes.

The intensity of the attacks on the city, situated along the Egyptian border, underscores the grave humanitarian situation unfolding in the region.

Amid escalating tensions, civilian casualties continue to mount, exacerbating the already dire circumstances facing residents of Gaza. The Hamas-run health ministry’s update on the casualties highlights the devastating impact of the airstrikes on the local population, with families mourning the loss of loved ones and communities reeling from the destruction.

The Israeli military has yet to issue a statement regarding the airstrikes and the resulting casualties. However, the escalation in violence underscores the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further loss of life.

As international attention focuses on the situation in Gaza, calls for restraint and a return to negotiations have intensified. The latest escalation in violence threatens to further destabilize an already volatile region and underscores the urgent need for a concerted international response to address the underlying grievances and achieve a lasting peace.
