PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Sveera Prakash from the Hindu community in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has decided to contest for a general seat in the provincial assembly elections, marking a significant moment for minority representation.
Sveera, a resident of the remote Buner district, hails from the Dagar region, the same area as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan.
As the first woman from a minority community to run for a general seat, Sveera Prakash brings a unique perspective to the political landscape. A seasoned professional in the medical field, she is also part of a family with a three-decade-long association with politics, particularly aligned with the Pakistan Peoples Party.
Nomination papers for the general seat from PK-25 Buner have been officially submitted by Sveera Prakash, as confirmed by the Returning Officer’s office. Notably, she stands as the sole female and minority candidate in the race. The PPP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has acknowledged the submission of her nomination papers, expressing that a final decision on candidates will be made soon. Sveera Prakash’s name is also listed for consideration on the reserved seats.
