MADINAH: Located in Madinah, the Quba Mosque holds a special place in Islamic history as the first mosque established by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) after His migration from Makkah. Constructed under the Holy Prophet’s guidance and completed by his companions, the mosque remains an important site of worship near the Holy Prophet’s Mosque.
Renowned for its historical significance and the blessings associated with prayers offered there, the Quba Mosque attracts both locals and visitors, making it one of the most frequented mosques in Madinah. It accommodates daily prayers along with Friday and Eid prayers, underscoring its central role in the Muslim community worldwide.
Over the years, the mosque has undergone several renovations to preserve its heritage. In 1388 AH, its external walls were restored, and a significant expansion was carried out on the northern side. Further improvements were made in 1405 AH, following King Fahd’s directive for a comprehensive rebuild and expansion, maintaining its traditional essence.
These renovations increased the prayer hall’s area to 5,035 square meters and expanded the overall mosque and facilities to 13,500 square meters from the original 1,600 square meters. Additional amenities such as a library and marketing area were added to enhance the visitor experience, providing both spiritual and educational enrichment.
Continuing this legacy, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud have announced an unprecedented expansion project for the Quba Mosque.
This initiative aims to expand the mosque’s total area to 50,000 square meters, accommodating up to 66,000 worshippers. This expansion marks a significant milestone in furthering the mosque’s capacity to serve as a historical and spiritual sanctuary for Muslims globally.
