SANAA: Mohammed Abdulsalam, the Houthis’ chief negotiator and spokesperson, disclosed significant strides in surmounting hurdles to the peace roadmap during recent discussions with some Middle Eastern officials.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Abdulsalam elaborated on the discussed solutions, noting their alignment with the vision outlined by UN envoy Hans Grundberg for Yemen. Despite previous Houthi-initiated attacks on ships in the Red Sea, Abdulsalam hinted at the possibility of halting such operations contingent upon the cessation of Israeli assaults on Palestinians.
Expressing optimism about ongoing peace endeavors, Abdulsalam pointed to positive developments since the inception of the UN truce in April 2022 and productive discussions facilitated under Omani mediation.
Regarding political negotiations, Abdulsalam underscored the importance of addressing humanitarian crises and accommodating the concerns of all stakeholders.
Additionally, he reiterated the Houthis’ steadfast stance that military operations in the Red Sea would persist until the siege on Gaza is lifted, while also expressing openness to engaging in dialogue with Western powers under the auspices of Oman’s mediation.
