ISLAMABAD: Huawei Pakistan expressed interest in collaborating with the Government of Pakistan on the Islamabad Smart City project during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.

The delegation, led by CEO Ethan Sun, outlined plans for integrating various services such as traffic management, healthcare, education, and parking into a unified digital platform under the Islamabad Smart City initiative.

Furthermore, Huawei proposed establishing a National Data Centre aligned with Pakistan’s National Cloud Strategy. This initiative aims to enhance cloud services domestically, thereby contributing to savings in foreign exchange.

He envisioned increasing IT exports by training 300,000 students annually through Huawei’s programs, with a special focus on including women and youth from Balochistan.

Sharif underscored his government’s commitment to fostering sustainable cooperation with Huawei in advancing Pakistan’s digital economy.

He emphasized the critical role of skilled manpower in promoting the digital economy and stressed the urgency of digitizing government institutions to achieve efficient and modern governance.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on the development of a Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) system for IT sector training, which will be implemented in collaboration with provincial governments to further enhance digital skills across Pakistan.
