ISLAMABAD: Huawei has announced a major initiative to train 300,000 young Pakistanis in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and boost Pakistan’s technical education sector. This program aims to equip the youth with advanced skills crucial for the modern digital economy.

The announcement follows a key meeting at Huawei’s Islamabad office on Saturday, where Rana Mashood, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, discussed the details of this extensive training initiative. The discussions were part of a series of technical meetings held on September 4th and 5th, marking a crucial step in integrating Huawei’s global expertise into Pakistan’s educational framework.

The initiative, driven by the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is designed to enhance technical education across the country by leveraging Huawei’s cutting-edge training resources and experience. The program aims to not only improve the quality of ICT education but also foster innovation and skill development among Pakistani youth.

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) will serve as the implementation partner for this initiative, working under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme. This partnership will significantly elevate the standards of technical education in Pakistan, creating new opportunities for skill enhancement and career development.

The collaboration between Huawei and Pakistan builds on the groundwork laid during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Huawei’s headquarters in China. During the visit, the Prime Minister had invited Huawei to invest further in Pakistan’s taxation and e-governance sectors and to expand its involvement in the country’s Safe City projects.

At the Huawei headquarters, the Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by Huawei Chairman Liang Hua, who provided an overview of the company’s global operations, with a focus on its activities in Pakistan. The discussions covered various sectors, including e-governance, digital banking, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his appreciation for Huawei’s innovative contributions and urged the company to increase its investment in Pakistan. He highlighted the success of Huawei’s Safe City projects in Pakistan and invited the company to further invest in cities where China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects are underway.
