ISLAMABAD/GENEVA: Eight humanoid robots could be the star attractions when the United Nations (UN) hosts its first summit since the start of the pandemic on the benefit of artificial intelligence (AI), said it.

According to the AFP, the artificial intelligence for Good Global Summit, first held in 2017, could return to Geneva on July 6 and 7 after a three-year Covid-19 imposed break, the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said.

The event will showcase how AI and other least technologies can help reach the UN’s so-called sustainable development goals (SDGs), including fighting climate change and boosting humanitarian action.

ITU’s new chief Doreen Bogdan-Martin said that “it’s in our collective interests that we can shape artificial intelligence faster than it is shaping us,”

She said that “this summit, as the United Nations’ primary platform for AI, could bring leading voices representing the diversity of interests to ensure that artificial intelligence can be the powerful catalyst for progress in our race to rescue the SDGs,”.

United Nations member states adopted the 17 SDGs in 2015. Their aim includes eliminating poverty and food security and providing access to clean and affordable energy by 2030.

ITU said that eight humanoid social robots and more than twenty specialized robots could be brought together under the same roof for the first time during the July event.

it said that the humanoid robots Beonmi, Sophia, Nadine, Geminoid, 4NE-1, Ai-Da Robot, Grace, and Desdemona could showcase capabilities ranging from fighting fires and delivering aids to providing healthcare and farming sustainably.
