IAEA’s board passes resolution criticizing Iran

VIENNA: The United Nations nuclear program regulatory body International Atomic Energy Agency’s board of governors that 35 states has passed a resolution criticizing Iran’s lack of cooperation, diplomats told AFP Thursday. 

China and Russia did not vote for the motion that had been put forward by the United States, Britain, France and Germany. In a space of six months this was the second such move.

The last negative was passed in July, which on a lack of “technically credible” points shared by Iran about the particles in question.

Washington, London, Paris and Berlin have decided to up the ante against Iran on the issue.

The resolution underscores that it is “essential and urgent” for Iran to “act to fulfil its legal obligations”.

The focus of the IAEA is on uranium of man-made that had not been declared and had previously been found at three sites, along with “access to locations and material”, as well as samples’ collection.

A total of 2 countries opposed the motion while 5 abstained, 26 voted in favor and 2 countries were absent, diplomats told AFP. – AFP/APP
