DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday a total prize pool of $7.96 million for the Women’s T20 World Cup, set to start next month in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The ninth edition of the tournament will be held from October 3 to 20, with matches taking place in Dubai and Sharjah. The final is scheduled for the Dubai International Stadium.

The winners of the tournament will receive $2.34 million, more than double the $1 million awarded to Australia for their victory in the 2023 edition. In comparison, India received $2.45 million for winning the men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, which had a total prize pool of $11.25 million.

The ICC stated that this increase aligns with its strategy to prioritize and grow women’s cricket by 2032. The new prize structure ensures equal prize money for equivalent finishing positions and match wins across comparable events.

The runners-up will earn $1.17 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will each receive $675,000 (Rs. 5.6 crore). Each of the 10 participating teams is guaranteed $112,500, and each win in the group stage will earn a team $31,154.

The Women’s T20 World Cup was relocated to the UAE from Bangladesh due to recent political instability and violence in the latter.
