ICC: Participating Nations Get Tentative World Cup Schedule

ISLAMABAD: The teams participating in the upcoming Cricket World Cup — set to take place in October this year — received a tentative schedule from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.

The Cricket governing body has shared the tentative schedule with the BCCI and others to get their feedback for the event. If Pakistan decides to take part in the tournament, the team is anticipated to play matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The World event will begin on October 5, while the final will take place on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. New Zealand will play the opening match against defending champions England.

The match between Green Shirts and India is expected to be held on October 15 in Ahmedabad, as per media reports. Pakistan will likely play against two qualifier teams in Ahmedabad, while India will play in Hyderabad.

Pakistan will likely be against Australia and New Zealand in Bangalore. Meanwhile, in Chennai, it is expected to play against South Africa and Afghanistan. In Kolkata, Pakistani team will likely be in action against England and Bangladesh.

Every team in the tournament will play nine league matches. Meanwhile, the ICC’s schedule is expected to be released running week, according to media reports.

The International Cricket Council is the global governing body of cricket. Founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from England, Australia and South Africa was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965. The body took up its current name; International Cricket Council in 1987.
