ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed down an official reprimand to South African player David Miller for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during a Super Eights Group 2 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 against England.

Miller was found to have violated Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to expressing dissent at the decision of the Umpire during an International Match.

According to a press release, one demerit point has also been added to Miller’s disciplinary record. The incident occurred in the 19th over of South Africa’s innings at a match played in Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Friday.

Miller played a full toss from Sam Curran and wanted it to be called a ‘no ball’ for height. When it was not called a ‘no ball’, he strongly reacted to the umpire’s decision.

The South African player accepted the sanction imposed by Jeff Crowe of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As Miller admitted the offence so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and Chris Brown, third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Chris Gaffaney levelled the charge against the player.

Level 1 violation carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 percent of match fee of the player and one or two demerit points.
