ISLAMABAD: A delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) visited Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday to assess its readiness for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to be played in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
The delegation, featuring representatives from broadcasting and logistics, received an in-depth briefing from officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Usman Wahla, PCB’s Director of International Cricket, led the delegation on a thorough exploration of the stadium.
During their visit, they inspected various sections of the venue, including the enclosures, media box, dressing rooms, and other pivotal areas. This visit was part of a broader ICC review tour, which had previously included an evaluation of Karachi’s National Bank Stadium on January 9.
The focus was on the ongoing enhancements, particularly the installation of fresh seating in the stadium’s general enclosures. As part of these renovations, four enclosures are being adorned with new white and green chairs, reflecting the national colours of Pakistan.
According to PCB insiders, the upgrade at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is on track to be finalized by the end of January.
The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is set to commence on February 19, with the host nation and reigning champions, Pakistan, facing off against New Zealand in the opening match at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will proudly host three matches of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The grand finale is slated for March 9 in Lahore, unless India secures a place, in which case it will shift to Dubai.
