ISLAMABAD: After defeating the in-form South Africa in the previous game, the Netherlands turned the table on Bangladesh to register another upset in the ICC World Cup match played at Eden Garden Kolkata on Saturday. Due to splendid bowling from the Dutch, the top and middle order of Bangladesh collapsed and lost the match by 86 runs. After the win, Netherlands’ total points reached 4 which is equivalent to Pakistan’s as both the teams have 4 losses and 2 wins.

Chasing a target of 230 to win, Bangladesh took a cautious start but remained under pressure from the beginning. In the fifth over, on 19 runs, they lost the first wicket of Litton Das, scoring just 3 runs on 12 balls. In the very next over, Van Beek Dismissed Tanzid Hasan on 15.

The side lost their third wicket in the 12th over when Najmul Hossain Shanto was removed on 9. The next was Shakib-Al Hasan, who added just 5 runs to the total. At the stage, Bangladesh was 63 for 4 in 16 over, whereas the Dutch bowlers were fully dominating them.

They didn’t let Bangladesh batters play freely. Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed some resistance and scored 35 runs on 40 balls. However, in the 17th over, he was dismissed by Bas de Leede, with the total score reaching 69. In the next over, Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out by Meekeren on 1.

After losing 6 wickets on 70, the burden of the chase shifted to Mahmudullah once again, who scored a century in the last game against South Africa but was unable to win the game for his side as other batters collapsed with interval.

Having the same situation in the contest against the Netherlands, Mahmudullah was joined by Mahedi Hasan to push the scoreboard ahead. Both drove their side to 100 runs in 27.3 overs. However, they still required 130 runs in 22.3 overs with four wickets in hand. Mahedi and Mahmudullah added 38 runs partnership for the side and were going well, but the Dutch fielding worked as Bas de Leede got run-out Mahedi on 17. At the stage, Bangladesh were 108 for 7 in 29.4 overs. A couple of overs later at 113 in the 33rd over of the last set, batter Mahmudullah was also dismissed by Bas de Leede. He scored 20 runs. After the dismissal of Mahmudullah, it was almost impossible for Bangladesh to chase the target. At the ninth wicket partnership, Mustafizur Rehman and Taskin showed some resistance and added 29 runs partnership, but Mustafiz was also dismissed by Ackerman on 20. In the next over, Taskin was also removed and Netherlands won the match by 87 runs with 7.2 overs to spare.

From the Netherlands, Paul van Meekeren was the most successful bowler, taking 4 wickets. Bas de Leede grabbed two wickets while Aryan Dutt, Ackerman, and Van Beek got one wicket each.
