ICC World Cup: Netherlands Set 230-Run Target for Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Like most of the previous matches, after an early collapse, the Netherlands middle order came to rescue the side and guided them to a moderate total of 229 runs against Bangladesh in the ICC contest being played at Eden Garden Kolkata India on Saturday. Like the previous games, the Netherlands lost their 5 wickets very quickly. Whereas the skipper Scott Edwards, Barresi, and Engelbrecht added crucial runs to the side to take their team crossed the 200 runs mark.

Earlier, winning the toss, Netherlands decided to bat first; however, they lost their first wicket in the second over when Vikramjit was removed by Taskin on 3. In the next over the other opener O’ Dowd has also gone for zero. The number third batter, Wesley Barresi, showed some resistance and played a solid innings of 41; however, in the 14th over, when the score reached 63 he was also dismissed by Mustafizur Rehman. 

In the next over, Colin Ackerman was also dismissed on 15. The side lost their fifth wicket when the score reached 107 in the 27th over. Meanwhile, like the previous matches, the skipper came to the rescue and played a splendid half-century. He shared a crucial 78-run partnership with Sybrand Engelbrecht to take their side near to 200.

In the 45th over, Netherlands lost their 6 wickets on 185 when the skipper was dismissed on 68 on 89 balls. In the next over, Engelbrecht also went on 35. After the two set batters, the tail added few but crucial runs to the total with some fine hitting in the 50th over by Van Beek. He scored 23 on 16 balls. In 50 overs, Netherlands scored 229 runs all out. 

From Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmad, Shoriful Islam, Mehedy Hasan Miraz, and Mustafizur Rehman grabbed two wickets each, while Shakib Al Hasan got one wicket.
