ISLAMABAD: Pakistani pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has etched his name in the annals of cricketing history by becoming the fastest bowler to claim 100 One Day International (ODI) wickets. Afridi achieved this remarkable feat during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, displaying his exceptional skills on the international stage.

In a breathtaking performance, Shaheen Afridi dismissed Tanzid Hasan in the very first over of the match, reaching the milestone of 100 ODI wickets in just 51 games. This achievement not only cements Shaheen’s status as one of the most talented pacers in the modern era but also breaks the previous record held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who accomplished this feat in 52 matches.

Shaheen Afridi Join Elite Club of Fast Bowlers

Shaheen’s remarkable achievement places him in an elite club of fast bowlers. The left-arm pacer’s swift ascent to the 100-wicket mark in ODIs puts him ahead of prominent bowlers like New Zealand’s Shane Bond (54 matches), Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman (54 matches), and Australia’s Brett Lee (55 matches).

It is noteworthy that while Shaheen’s feat is exceptional, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane reached 100 wickets in 42 matches, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan achieved the milestone in 44 matches, showcasing the extraordinary talent and competitiveness in the world of international cricket.

Having made his international debut in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is in 2018, Shaheen Afridi’s rapid rise to prominence has been a testament to his skill, determination, and consistency on the cricket field.
