ISLAMABAD, Jul. 10:Monday, Ahsan Bakhtawari, president of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce (ICCI), called for increased investment in the tourism industry as a means to achieving long-term economic growth and fostering a positive public perception of Pakistan abroad.
He noted that this was the first event of its kind in the north, and that ICCI had organised it to draw attention to the region’s untapped tourism potential. He claimed that several foreigners and ambassadors from nations like Turkey, Malaysia, and Syria were present at the gathering.
A press release quoted him as saying that the chamber of commerce would continue to host similar events to boost tourism, which provides locals with a means of earning a living.
He advocated that the government take cues from neighbouring nations like Turkey and Malaysia when formulating tourist policy, and he encouraged collaboration to boost tourism in the country’s northern regions.
When asked about the importance of tourism to the Malaysian economy, Ambassador Azhar bin Mazlan said that Pakistan has many attractions that can draw visitors from all over the world, not just Malaysia.
Turkiye’s envoy to Pakistan, Dr. Mehmet Pachi, recently remarked on Pakistan’s untapped tourism potential, noting that Turkiye is one of the world’s most well-known vacation spots, attracting millions of visitors each year, and that greater bilateral cooperation in this area would benefit both countries.
