WASHINGTON: Totally Cool, a Maryland company, has recalled nearly 70 ice cream products sold under thirteen brand names due to potential listeria contamination. The products were sold across the US under numerous brand names, including Hershey’s, Friendly’s, Chipwich, and Jeni’s. The other affected products were sold under LaSalle, Dolcezza Gelato, Cumberland Farms, The Frozen Farmer, and Marco.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, according to the recall notice on the Food & Drug Administration website. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant ladies. No illnesses have been reported so far, according to the recall notice.

Totally Cool, Inc. announced in the recall that it has “halted the production and distribution of the affected products due to FDA sampling, which detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.”

Furthermore, consumers who bought the affected products are advised to return them to the place of purchase.
