LAHORE: The 17th death anniversary of iconic music director and composer Nisar Bazmi is being observed today (on Friday).

Born Nisar Ahmed on December 1, 1924, into a devout family in Mumbai, he adopted the surname Bazmi to pursue his career in film music.

Initiating his musical journey at the tender age of 13, Bazmi swiftly honed his skills across a spectrum of musical instruments. His talent earned him a position as an artist at ‘All India Radio’ in 1939, where his inaugural compositions aired on the Bombay Radio Station in 1944.

Bazmi’s cinematic debut with the film “Jumna Paar” in 1946 catapulted him to eminence as a premier composer. His musical genius graced over 40 Indian films, 28 of which premiered before his relocation to Pakistan. Renowned vocalists like Runa Laila and Mehdi Hassan were beneficiaries of his melodic compositions.

In Pakistan, Bazmi’s musical legacy flourished further, as he contributed his talents to over 60 films. Tragically, on March 22, 2007, Nisar Bazmi passed away in Karachi, leaving behind an indelible imprint on the world of music and cinema.
