LAHORE: The third death anniversary of famous Pakistani folk singer Shaukat Ali observed on Tuesday.
The renowned singer was born on May 3, 1944, in Malikwal Town in family of artistes.
He was famous for singing Sufi poetry and folk songs with wide vocal range. He is loved by Punjabi speaking community across the world.
His song during the 1965 war Jaag utha hai sara watan is still one of the most famous patriotic songs and raises the spirits of soldiers.
He also had honour to perform in the Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982. Government of Pakistan awarded him Pride of Performance award in 1990.
Shaukat Ali also received many awards including ‘The Pride of Punjab’ and ‘The Voice of Punjab’.
The iconic singer died on April 2, 2021 in Lahore after a fighting a prolonged liver disease.
A Canadian company, in 2017, produced a one-hour-long documentary to commemorate his contributions to the Pakistani entertainment industry, with the help of his son.
