IG Punjab Assures Security and Transparency for 2024 General Election

LAHORE: In a video message addressing the upcoming General Election in 2024, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, highlighted the power of the people to elect their political representatives through the electoral process. The IG assured that Punjab Police is fully prepared to ensure the peaceful conduct of the General Election scheduled for February 8, 2024.

To enhance security measures for the upcoming election, Dr. Usman Anwar mentioned that over 130,000 personnel would be deployed, marking an increase of 26,000 from the previous election. Various units, including the Special Protection Unit, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, and training institutes, are actively involved in securing the electoral process. Notably, more than 10,000 women police officers will be posted on election duty.

The IG expressed coordination with all security agencies in the country to guarantee a peaceful and transparent electoral process. He emphasized the strict implementation of the Election Commission’s code of conduct during political activities in all districts, including Lahore. Dr. Usman Anwar asserted that strict legal action would be taken against activities such as aerial firing, the display of weapons, or any other illegal activities.

Regarding the overall law and order situation, the IG Punjab assured the public that the atmosphere is satisfactory. He urged citizens not to heed unconfirmed news or intelligence reports. Dr. Usman Anwar also highlighted the positive economic indicators from the previous year, with Pakistan’s stock market and currency maintaining excellent positions. Additionally, efforts were made to curb smuggling and hoarding, and illegally residing foreign nationals were expelled from the country.

As political activities for the upcoming election commence, the IG Punjab called for cooperation with national institutions to ensure the peaceful and transparent conduct of the electoral process.
