ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday adjourned hearing till January 25, on appeal against the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan by the Election Commission of Pakistan in Tosha Khana case.

Aamer Farooq, Chief Justice IHC adjourned the case on the request of the PTI’s counsel. Barrister Gohar, an Associate lawyer in the case told the court that Barrister Ali Zafar could not appear due to his engagements in the Lahore High Court the same day.

He prayed the court to adjourn the hearing till next week. The bench was further told that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had also moved an identical case in the Lahore High Court and that it did not inform the court about the same.

Barrister Gohar said that they had challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notice issued on 7 December. The CJ remarked that the petitioner could not challenge the notice at two forums at the same time. He told the lawyer better withdraw the appeal.

Chief justice Aamer Farooq remarked that it would have been understandable if that was done by a young lawyer but, he added, Barrister Zafar was a senior guy. The PTI counsel said that Barrister Zafar would give arguments on the point on the next hearing.

‘Not an appropriate act’: IHC

The chief justice viewed it as ‘not an appropriate act’ and adjourned further hearing of the case till the last week of January (January 25). It may be noted here that PTI chief Imran Khan had challenged his disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan in Tosha Khana case.
