ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday extended interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in eight criminal cases registered against him in Islamabad until May 3.

Khan had applied for an extension in the interim bails in eight cases, including the judicial complex riot case.

During the previous hearing, the court had extended interim bails of the PTI Chairman in eight cases till April 18. A two-member bench headed by the IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the bail pleas and the former prime minister’s request for exemption from attendance as he opted to stay in Lahore. During the previous hearing, Justice Farooq had remarked that legal action will be taken if Imran does not appear for the next hearing.

The ousted prime minister has maintained in the plea that more than “140 baseless fake cases” were registered against him by using state machinery, for political objectives. Khan’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry had apprised the court that Imran was not coming to the court due to security concerns. It is to mention that the court had sought an answer from the federal government regarding security of the former premier as the government had withdrawn the security of the PTI chief.

The court asked Imran Khan to appear in the court on the next hearing at every cost otherwise his bail would stand cancelled.
