ISLAMABAD: After climate activist Sonam Wangchuk proposed ‘Pashmina March’ on Sunday, the Ladakh authorities ordered the imposition of Article 144 in Leh district of the Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Leh District Magistrate issued this order based on ‘reliable information’ provided by Leh police chief, who expressed concern about the possibility of jeopardizing security and peace in the region.

District Magistrate Santosh Sukhdeva has declared that no procession, procession, march or similar gathering will be allowed without the prior approval of the Leh District Magistrate.

“Loudspeakers mounted on vehicles or any other loudspeakers shall not be used without the prior approval of the competent authority. No public assembly shall be permitted without the prior approval of the competent authority,” the district judge ordered.

The order comes in view of renowned environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has announced the “Pashmina March” in Ladakh’s Changthang region for people’s demands. —APP
