IMF Delegation Holds Meeting with PTI Chief

LAHORE: A delegation of the International Monetary Fund has held a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief in Lahore, local media reported on Friday.

The IMF is seeking the support of main political parties in the South Asian country ahead of its executive board meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday to review and possibly approve a $3 billion Standby Arrangement for Pakistan.

PTI’s side included ex-Prime Minister, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Shaukat Tarin, Hammad Azhar, Dr Sania Nishtar, Omer Ayub Khan, Taimur Jhagra, Muzammil Aslam and Shibli Faraz.

Giving details regarding the meeting, Hammad Azhar said that a team of IMF visited his party’s head in Lahore where they discussed a staff-level deal agreed between the IMF and Pakistan.

He added that they supported the key policies and overall objectives. The meeting was attended by IMF country head Nathan Porter virtually and Resident Representative Ester Perez Luis in person, he maintained.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar also held a significant meeting with IMF representative Ester Perez Luis.
