DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Wednesday that strengthening the national economy is essential for the country’s stability.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted by JUI-F district leadership in his honour, he stressed the importance of formulating effective policies to combat terrorism in order to ensure economic stability.

Fazl expressed his party’s commitment to supporting the government in all initiatives aimed at improving the national economy. He highlighted the recent Shanghai Cooperation Conference (SCC) meeting held in Pakistan, calling it a point of pride for the entire nation.

He also said the significance of the 26th constitutional amendment, which mandates Parliament to consider recommendations from the Islamic Ideology Council (IIC) before making any legislation—a major achievement in his view. Fazl pointed out that the requirement for 40 percent of legislators’ agreement to refer matters to the IIC has been reduced to 25 percent under this amendment.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Palestinian Muslims, where approximately 50,000 to 60,000 innocent civilians have lost their lives due to occupying forces. He urged Muslim governments to take concrete actions to stop the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Earlier, while speaking to the media, Fazl called for dialogue with trustworthy leaders who have public confidence, stressing that meaningful discussions are vital for addressing the nation’s pressing challenges. He underscored the role of his party in the 26th constitutional amendment, stating that JUI-F played a crucial role in averting a political crisis and strengthening Parliament.

He elaborated that out of 56 proposed amendments, 22 were passed during the legislative session, and his party successfully incorporated five key clauses from its manifesto.
