ISLAMABAD: Jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has accepted the resignation of Omar Ayub Khan as secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The PTI founding chairman has appointed prominent lawyer Salman Akram Raja as the new secretary general of the party.

Although Ayub has stepped down from his party position, he will continue to serve as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, thus maintaining his significant role within PTI’s political framework.

On June 27, Ayub expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan for accepting his resignation through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I am most grateful to PM Imran Khan sahib for accepting my resignation as Secretary General PTI to focus on my role as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.”

Ayub’s resignation letter, dated June 22, was addressed to Imran Khan and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. The resignation was communicated to Khan by Senator Shibli Faraz during a meeting at Adyala Jail.

In his post on X, Ayub indicated that further changes to PTI’s organizational structure are anticipated in the near future, as directed by Imran Khan.
