ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has stated that he has “no regret” in dissolving Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies, asserting that it is the party’s “constitutional right.”

Speaking to a private news channel, Imran Khan reiterated that the Constitution stipulates that elections are held within 90 days of assembly dissolution. Khan also lambasted the ruling coalition for not implementing the Supreme Court of Pakistan orders and warned of country-wide protests.

“We stand by the Supreme Court for implementation of the Constitution,” Khan added. He further stated that citizens have lost hope in the country and are leaving for abroad.

“The government is paying a huge price just to keep me out of the government,” he added. The PTI chief also criticized former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming that Bajwa controlled the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during his tenure.

According to Khan, a country cannot function without the supremacy of the rule of law. He added that overseas Pakistanis were not investing in the country due to corruption.

The PTI chief further noted that foreign investment cannot increase until there is stability in the country. Khan also alleged that PTI’s seats were reduced in the 2018 election.

Imran Khan says PTI ready for simultaneous elections if government dissolves assemblies

During a PTI rally in Lahore on Labor Day, Khan announced that his political party is ready for simultaneous elections if the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government dissolves the assemblies tomorrow.

“The government should confirm the dissolution of National and provincial assemblies before May 14 in the next round of talks. PTI is ready for elections on the same day if assemblies dissolve tomorrow,” Khan said.

Criticizing the ruling parties, Khan claimed that they will only hold polls after seeing an opportunity to get victorious and removing Imran Khan from their path.

“They want to jail Imran Khan or kill me. They attacked Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s home like dacoits after they attacked my home in Lahore and arrested PTI workers.”

The PTI chairman’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan. The opposition PTI has been holding rallies across the country, calling for the early elections across the country.

Meanwhile, the government has been accused of curbing freedom of speech and using the judiciary to silence dissenting voices.

The situation has caused concern among international human rights organizations and democratic countries.
