ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan expressed concerns on Sunday about his potential arrest, stating that there is an 80 percent chance of his apprehension on May 23.

In an interview with CNN, the former prime minister of Pakistan claimed that efforts were being made to undermine democracy in the country, with thousands of PTI workers already arrested and his senior leadership team in jail.

Imran Khan also spoke about his previous working relationship with former army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, alleging that Bajwa had collaborated with others to remove him from power during the last six months of his government. Khan asserted that the current government is afraid of facing elections and criticized their actions, stating that they want to harm him due to their fear of the PTI’s potential success.

Imran Khan claims govt may hold elections in October

Referring to a previous assassination attempt on his life, Imran Khan expressed concerns for his safety and claimed that the government might not hold elections in October, as scheduled.

He accused the government of trying to crush his party and stated that the arrests of PTI leaders and workers were part of a crackdown aimed at weakening the PTI’s position.

Imran Khan also mentioned the isolation of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and suggested that a political party or leader becomes isolated when they lack public support.

He further alleged that the government could face charges under Article 6 for delaying the polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Regarding the Supreme Court, Imran Khan claimed that despite differences among judges, they all agree that elections should be held within 90 days. He criticized the PDM for avoiding elections despite their previous support and accused the government of seeking ways to create conflict between him, the PTI, and the army.

Imran Khan’s apprehensions highlight the ongoing political tensions in Pakistan. As the situation unfolds, the political landscape remains unpredictable, and the future course of events will determine the trajectory of the country’s political climate.
