RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s main opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chairman Barrister Gohar on Tuesday confirmed that the party’s founder has signaled for dialogue with political opponents.

Speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, Gohar Ali Khan said that former prime minister Imran Khan was informed that holding dialogue is necessary due to growing distances.

“The party’s founder was informed about the increasing divides, and he agreed that dialogue is necessary,” Khan stated.

Responding to a journalist’s query about whether the Supreme Court’s suggestion prompted the negotiations, Barrister Gohar clarified that while the Supreme Court’s option was considered, the decision to engage in talks was solely PTI’s.

“We haven’t received any external offer for dialogue. It’s our own initiative to pursue dialogue,” Gohar reiterated. He further mentioned that PTI would consult with allies like Mehmood Khan Achakzai and other coalition partners regarding the dialogue process.

Mehmood Khan Achakzai is the head of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and was the presidential candidate of PTI in the last presidential election.

“We are open to holding talks either at the alliance level or independently as PTI,” he added. Stressing the importance of dialogue, Gohar emphasized that it shouldn’t be misconstrued as a deal.

He reassured that PTI’s founder hadn’t corresponded with the Supreme Court directly, and the party would respond to the court’s suggestion independently.
