LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has warned of countrywide protests if polls are not held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab within 90 days after the dissolution of the two provincial assemblies.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed the elections to October 8, citing security reasons and the inability of authorities to cooperate with ECP in elections.

In an interaction with journalists in Lahore, the former prime minister criticized the caretaker governments in the provinces for not playing a “neutral” role.

The PTI Chairman questioned under which law the coalition government would restore the provincial assemblies in Punjab and KP if the polls do not take place within the stipulated time.

Khan also lashed out at the Mohsin Raza Naqvi-led interim Punjab government, CCPO Lahore Bilal Saddique Kamyana, and Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar, referring to them as “criminals” and revealing that a case has been prepared in connection with the “attack” on his house.

The deposed premier also revealed that PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi had been assigned to restore contacts with other political parties.

Furthermore, Khan criticized former chief of army staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming that he had put pressure on him as he “intended friendship with India.” He called for Bajwa to be held accountable by the army.

Khan has threatened to launch countrywide protests if the elections do not occur within the stipulated time.
