LAHORE: Pakistan’s main opposition political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan warned the federal government of reaction if any political engineering would be done in the upcoming general elections in the country.

Speaking to a group of senior journalists at his Zaman Park residence in Pakistan’s Lahore city, the cricket-turn politician noted that the willingness of the “seat of power” was crucial for ensuring early general elections.

Imran Khan claimed he was not in contact with the country’s Establishment.

The country’s deposed premier took a jibe at the ruling coalition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), saying the group had become a “drawing room” party, adding that they came into power to get “NRO-2”.

Political rhetoric

Earlier, Pakistan’s former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari could not invite the PTI members to the assembly as it was the prime minister’s prerogative.

In a statement, Qureshi said PTI was ready to join the assembly proceedings, but the government needed to be more serious and give the election dates.

To a question regarding communication with the country’s Establishment, Qureshi claimed that “Establishment has gone neutral now, so there are no links between PTI and Establishment.”
